Job Position: Cook

The Cook at Christian retreat ministry Meadowkirk at Delta Farm (http://www.meadowkirk.org) will be an experienced kitchen team member focused on: (a) helping to supervise and (b) participating in our full-service, hands-on kitchen operation.

Meadowkirk is 358 acres of beautiful pastoral and wooded nature serving as a place of retreat, respite and renewal for the many church groups, nonprofits, educational organizations, businesses and others we serve.  Our elevated meal service is a vital, core component of each group retreat experience.

Among this key team member’s responsibilities will be the ability to help ensure a consistently premier retreat dining experience that spans family- and buffet-style, grab-and-go, special event and other formats, and that incorporates our evolving farm-to-table operation.

The ideal candidate will be available to participate in a flexible work schedule involving mostly weekend retreat service as well as weekday prep days and occasional weekday retreat service. This schedule will be determined in advance in collaboration with other team members and based on Meadowkirk’s guest group bookings and operating requirements.

On-site staff housing is a significant option.  Position may involve full- or part-time hourly arrangements; occasional/seasonal commitments to be considered.

Working collaboratively with Meadowkirk’s kitchen team and hospitality staff the Cook will:

  • Prepare and serve a full array of breakfast, lunch, dinner and snack time meals and appetizers.
  • Serve as a primary cook (at least two meals per day during a three-meal cycle).
  • Help develop/refine seasonal menus (not a la carte), pricing and sourcing – including the incorporation of Meadowkirk’s farm-to-table elements and partnerships with regional farms/other food service-related organizations – to exceed guest expectations and enable a cost-efficient kitchen operation.
  • Coordinate/receive food service deliveries, maintaining strong storage and inventory controls.
  • Participate in the administrative process of team scheduling and kitchen team meetings.
  • Assist with set up, clean up, dish washing and removing garbage from kitchen areas.
  • Meet and exceed procedures required by the Board of Health and Meadowkirk’s food services operation, maintaining the highest kitchen quality, safety and cleanliness standards and food handling protocols.
  • Have a strong sense of taste and smell, excellent hand and finger dexterity (including superior knife skills), and a clear understanding of weights and measures.
  • Interact with guests during meal service, being welcoming and accommodating.
  • Participate in other related duties as assigned.

Cook will have min. 2 years of relevant experience in busy restaurant or other food-service settings, ServSafe certification – and a heart for Meadowkirk’s mission and distinctive focus on retreat, respite, renewal and Christian rest.  Compensation commensurate with experience, and based on factors such as full-/part-time status and use of on-site staff housing. To apply please email resume and cover letter to executive.director@meadowkirk.org.
