HSLDA is seeking an analytical Legislative Affairs Coordinator to advance our advocacy efforts by tracking key legislation, coordinating cross-departmental strategy, and delivering timely updates to both the legal team and the broader organization. The ideal candidate is a forward thinker who can proactively identify opportunities, develop strategic solutions, and build out new legislative programs that support HSLDA’s mission. This is a full-time, on-site position in our Purcellville, VA office.

What You Will Do
*Monitor federal, state, and local legislation relevant to HSLDA’s mission.
*Summarize and track bills, amendments, hearings, and regulatory changes.
*Conduct background research and policy analysis for HSLDA attorneys.
*Support the planning and execution of advocacy campaigns and emails.
*Develop fact sheets, talking points, testimony, policy briefs, and position statements.
*Schedule and facilitate meetings with legislators, congressional staffers, and other stakeholders.
*Represent HSLDA at hearings, briefings, and external meetings as needed.
*Collaborate with the communications team to ensure legislative messaging is aligned in style and substance to present a unified brand voice.
*Provide regular updates to staff and leadership on legislative developments and advocacy progress.
*Track and report lobbying activity and ensure compliance with applicable laws.
*Serve as primary point of contact for the legal department on legislative software.
*Draft email alerts and other advocacy communications in coordination with legal and communications teams.
*Write plain-language articles, updates, and legislative summaries with compelling stories for public and internal audiences.
What You Will Bring
*1–3 years of experience in legislative affairs, public policy, or government relations
*Bachelor’s degree in political science, public policy, Government, or related field preferred
*Strong understanding of the legislative process and advocacy strategies
*Excellent writing, research, and communication skills
*Ability to manage multiple priorities and work both independently and collaboratively
*Experience with legislative and advocacy tracking tools like Fiscal Note and VoterVoice an added benefit
*Being a committed Christian
*Passionate about HSLDA’s mission to advocate for homeschooling
